Over time, various elements in the skin are lost, including collagen (one of the major proteins supporting the complexion), hyaluronic acid and elastin. Lip fillers aim to rectify this. They’re one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures around.
Lip augmentation enhances the lips volume and definition, thus improving the overall aesthetic appearance of your face. They can also improve lip hydration and asymmetry. What’s more, side effects are very few to non-existent, plus you won’t be out of action for much time at all.
In practice, there are various kinds of fillers, each with its own benefits. But, essentially, the treatment involves a hyaluronic acid gel like solution being injected into the lips. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar which occurs naturally in the body, it adds volume and shape to the skin and gives a natural result, even when smiling and laughing. (Hyaluronic Acid (HA) gradually becomes depleted over time as we age, therefore it is important to gradually restore volume loss for a more youthful appearance).

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers
These are the most common (and popular) filler types, frequently described as the ‘gold standard’ due to their consistent results, low side-effects risk, the lack of post-treatment downtime and the fact that they are reversible. Their effects can be seen to last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years!
For a long time, collagen-based lip fillers were the only way of enhancing the appearance of lips. But the results didn’t always last that long, while, equally, some people can be allergic to the bovine collagen used. This is why hyaluronic acid-based fillers are the most popular and commonly used lip filler products that we use today.
It’s important to know that there are hundreds of dermal filler, hyaluronic acid based fillers on the market so it’s important to know what your practitioner is using for you. Some of the cheaper filler brands have less safety assurances and we sometimes know very little about them due to the lack of studies. At Rejuvenate Aesthetics Clinic we only use FDA regulated products; Juvederm and Teoxane. If your practitioner is using a cheaper filler brand, you need to ask the question of why?
Juvederm fillers
Juvederm is an industry-leading brand for hyaluronic acid dermal fillers for non-invasive procedures. The benefits of using it include patient safety and comfort. The fillers contain Lidocaine, a numbing agent, which makes the product far more comfortable than other cheaper products that do not contain this. Alongside immediately visible, consistent results the benefits of using a premium brand includes the longevity, with most treatments lasting between six and 12 months. Juvederm products are all Hyaluronic Acid based, which means that they can be reversed if necessary, this is great for if you don’t like the results but even more so if there were ever to be a complication. Your practitioner can easily tweak the quantity of filler you’re given based on your desired results and discomfort is minimal, finally, adverse reactions are rare.
Teoxane fillers
Teoxane products are one of the best premium brands of dermal fillers in the world, they are made of 100% non-animal products and based on biodegradable hyaluronic acid. Results can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. They are the only brand to have a product that is FDA approved and solely used to treat Tear Troughs (the hollowing under the eye). Pain, inflammation, and swelling are all minimal with this award-winning treatment. They also offer a wide range of other dermal fillers (that also contain Lidocaine for comfort) to treat any aesthetic concern you may have. You can look forward to a highly natural-looking end result that lasts.
